Enjoy a mini-meditation to reflect upon the beauty and inspiration of the holiday lights

The holidays are considered one of the busiest times but we can take a few minutes of mindfulness to appreciate this magical aspect of this time of the year.

The winter solstice is actually the first day of winter, but it is also the shortest day of the year.

This is also the time when “light” is a focus in many traditions.

Light guides us.

Light brings us hope.

The light shines for us.

This is the time of year when we can look inward to find our own light

And we can reflect upon our own light within.

This is the time when days get longer and longer. But for now, we are in the proverbial dark.

Remember, without darkness, we cannot see the beauty of the light.

This season it is still in darkness and cold for many but light represents heat and it may not warm our body, but the light can warm our heart.

So for today, enjoy the dark and the beauty of the lights reflected upon it.

Enjoy this little mini-meditation to connect with the lights of the holiday season.

Do this at night.

Grab yourself a cup of hot chocolate or a good cup of coffee, settle in on your couch or go for a walk, sit on your porch or do whatever is right for you

Notice the holiday lights around you.

Notice the lights. Notice how bright they shine against the darkness. Perhaps you are noticing the tree in your house, or a neighbor’s house that has lights strung along the porch.

Notice the lights of the holiday season, but let’s not forget the lights that shine for us every day. The lights on the street, the tiny lights that may shine through a window in the distance. They are all beacons of light.

They pull us in and grab our attention. But we can also notice them in a mindful way.

So take this moment and just notice. Look around and see where you can see little tiny bits of reflection of light and expand your awareness and notice the different colors of these lights.

Notice the hues. Notice the depth of them.

Notice the color of red and green and blue and white and yellow and purple and notice that you may see three or four different shades of each of them and just notice and be aware and as you do that take a moment to notice what pulls you in.

What color draws you in?

Because colors are frequencies of energy.

And each one touches us in a magical way.

Let’s not forget the lights in the sky. The millions of stars twinkle and transform the dark sky into an amazing display of light. Notice the moon above if she is there.

There is something about the stillness and darkness that is all about quiet contemplation.

This is also a good time to be mindful and still, as you enjoy the beauty of the season.

So, after you have taken some time to be mindful it’s time to focus inward and connect with your inner light.

What shines within you? What lights you up? What makes you feel good? What are you looking forward to?

Also ask, What is a shining light in your life? Family? Career? Peace?

No matter how you connect to the light this holiday season, it does connect us.

It helps to draw us to others and it brings us gratitude.

It also teaches us the beauty and simplicity of the season.

So let your inner light shine and bring some light and hope to others as we do so mindfully. One minute at a time.

You have a wonderful holiday and I will see you next week.

Take a deep breath in and exhale

So, before I go, listen closely and remember this ONE thing.

Your future is a thought, your past has passed, but your now is always here.

Be mindful-one minute at a time.

Hugs, Cheryl
